But sex aside, the characters are three-dimensional with flaws that infuse this plot with realism. Beckett can’t seem to control his jealousy, while Christiana gets herself in trouble with her honest opinions. Their relationship is a hot one, with anxious heartbreak....The mystery behind the Blacksmith’s identity does not provide so much surprise as it does fodder for catastrophe. The truth is a catalyst for further heartache, which drew me further into the plot as my concern for Christiana’s well-being grew.
